Description

Considering a manatee watching excursion while in Belize? Hop on board and be prepared to learn all about this interesting animal and its lifestyle. Manatees in Belize are brown or gray in color, covered in bristly hairs, and quite wrinkled. They don’t sound like the most attractive creatures, but these gentle giants are one of the most requested sea creatures in Belize. And the country has more than its fair share!

In this half-day boat tour, you will be able to see one or more of these docile and friendly sea mammals swimming and frolicking in their natural habitat. Manatees are also called “sea cows,'' and on your manatee watching excursion, you’ll be looking out for the plentiful patches of seagrass found in the Belize River. Hold your breath as they come up for air, and if you time it just right, you might be lucky enough to snap a photo.

Manatees are classified as endangered under Belize’s Wildlife Protection Act and Belize is known as the last stronghold for Antillean manatees in the Caribbean. So, while it’s possible to see manatees in a few other places in the world, a manatee watching excursion in Belize is one of your best chances for actually seeing them in the wild.
